What are some details about the IKEA desk top used in the setup?
The IKEA Karbly used in this setup would be the 98 inches desk top in Walnut. The approximate cost in USD is $249. It weighs 87lbs and it’s definitely not something you can move by yourself. It’s 1.5 inches thick, with a thick walnut veneer on top. This basically means that it’s not 100% all walnut but just a thick layer of it on the top and bottom surfaces.
How does the IKEA desk top fair in the long term?
Well, I’ve been using mine for almost 4 years but what really matters is whether or not you spill water onto it and whether you treat it with the IKEA STOCKARYD wood treatment oil. That oil helps with blocking the pores of the wood and make the wood water resistent. If you buy this desktop you would certainingly want to treat it with oil.
In addtion, if you’re mounting a heavy monitor or dual monitor to a table top. This IKEA desk top is perfect for it as it is super thick and sturdy. The only thing you have to beware of is not clamping on the desk too hard to leave a market from the mounting plates.
What’s the maintenance process like?
Well all you need is some IKEA Stockaryd oil and a sponge. It will prolong the life of the desk top and improve the look by adding a natural shine to it. Other than you really don’t need to do much.
